Republican Theocracy
and
Illiberalism’s Challenge to Democracy
The 4th seems an appropriate day to post this. It is a summary of my book, accompanied by a 25-minute audio podcast. I hope to publish it soon, but this form makes the process more efficient and ensures immediate availability. I hope you will take the time to listen.
“Republican Theocracy” argues that American democracy faces threats from a mix of forces, mainly the radical right and, to a lesser extent, the illiberal left. It traces the history of the religious right, claiming its origins come from opposition to racial desegregation rather than abortion, and explains how Christian Reconstructionism and its offshoot, the Seven Mountain Mandate, provide the theological and strategic bases for establishing a theocracy based on biblical law. It also describes how the Illiberal Left emerged as a postmodern distortion of multiculturalism, which was initially a liberal social and political philosophy that encourages the recognition, acceptance, and celebration of cultural diversity within society. The text discusses how some mainstream conservatives lend support to the agenda of the religious right, and how the illiberal left unknowingly helps them work toward a common goal, weakening and then demolishing democratic institutions, though from diametrically opposed perspectives. Ultimately, “Republican Theocracy” argues that these movements, driven by the mutual rejection of Enlightenment principles and an embrace of a “post-truth” environment, are actively working to dismantle the existing democratic system.

I do not address the UUA in this book, though I do think they are a prime example of the ideology of the illiberal left.
I am very interested in this book because it is exactly what I think is happening and it is why the current UUA leadership is NOT helping.
Stay tuned/
