Update as of April 2026

As of April 2026, we have decided to suspend parts of our Fifth Principle Project website. Since launching our website in January 2020, we have been truly grateful and appreciative of the support and fellowship.

However, it is clear that our goal to revive the right of conscience and to renew democratic governance within the Unitarian Universalist Association is unachievable. After five years, it is evident that revitalizing democratic governance cannot be done by a grassroots group; it must come from an internal effort within the UUA itself. There are no signs that such an internal effort is on the horizon.

The first section of our website to be suspended is our Donation page. Once again, we thank everyone who has offered financial support to keep this website running, purchase booths at the General Assembly for Board of Trustees candidates, and our UU The Conversation booth during the vote on Article II. We have also donated all the proceeds from the sale of our book, Used to Be UU, to this effort.

In hindsight, we believe that our effort to embrace democracy was the right strategy; we were just too late. The UUA had already used its considerable institutional power to hold onto its power. Sad.

We are still processing the suspension of parts of the website. We intend to maintain the Discussion Posts and Comments.
